Meet the Employee: Mark Fiorino
Welcome to another installment of our Employee Spotlight series at Pegasus Technologies. Today we’re introducing Mark Fiorino, a Tier 2 engineer who joined our team nearly five months ago and has already made a meaningful impact on clients and colleagues alike. This Employee Spotlight showcases Mark’s path into IT, his customer-first philosophy, and the personal values that guide the way he solves problems. It also offers a window into the culture at Pegasus Technologies—where service, curiosity, and continuous learning shape how we help organizations thrive.
From CompUSA to Tier 2 Support
Mark’s story in technology starts at CompUSA, the once-bustling national hub for curious tinkerers and future technologists. Retail may seem like an unusual launchpad for an engineering career, but for Mark it was a classroom in human connection. He learned to listen before he diagnosed, to ask simple questions that uncover real needs, and to translate technical jargon into practical answers. Those early days formed habits he still relies on: patient discovery, clear communication, and a bias for action.
Two decades later, those habits define his Tier 2 role at Pegasus. He works on complex issues that demand both technical depth and empathy for the end user’s experience. Whether the challenge involves a stubborn authentication problem, a collaboration platform misconfiguration, or an infrastructure hiccup, Mark approaches each case with the same steady process: understand the person, map the problem, then fix it in a way that feels seamless to the user.
Customer-Service-First Troubleshooter
Ask Mark what differentiates a good engineer from a great one and he’ll start with the customer’s point of view. He thinks about how a disruption feels—a sales rep locked out of email before a big meeting, a finance director staring at an error during month end, a remote employee struggling with a VPN prompt while traveling. That empathy powers better triage and faster resolution. It also builds trust, which is the single most important currency in managed IT.
Mark’s focus on experience is not soft skills in place of technical skill; it is the posture that makes technical skill effective. He can solve problems without losing sight of the person on the other end of the ticket. He documents carefully, communicates clearly, and follows through. Those fundamentals may not trend on social media, but they are the foundation of reliable IT outcomes.
Curiosity, Coffee, and Catchphrases
Every great engineer has a ritual. Mark’s involves coffee—and if he could add a custom key to his keyboard, it would start his Keurig and brew a strong sixteen-ounce cup. The humor here is more than a punchline; it reflects his belief that small routines fuel big results. Showing up prepared, focused, and energized keeps response times tight and thinking sharp.
Pressed to invent a superhero catchphrase, he leans toward the sci-fi-flavored, “Have you tried re-initializing the primary power coupling?” It’s a wink at the timeless truth of troubleshooting: first principles, checked systematically, fix more than most people expect. He brings the same playful pragmatism to the oddities of IT—like the infamous message, “The task failed successfully.” When things don’t make sense, he stays calm, tests assumptions, and nudges systems back into order.
A Technologist Who Chooses People Over Things
One peer tossed him a tough hypothetical: choose between a beloved Tesla and a career in IT. Mark didn’t hesitate long. Cars are replaceable; purpose is not. He chose the work—solving problems for people, building systems that hold up under pressure, and collaborating with a team that shares his standards. The answer says a lot about why he fits so well at Pegasus Technologies. Tools matter, but integrity and service matter more.
Adventure and Inspiration
Outside the office, Mark is not one to sit still. He prefers exploring to lounging, the joy of discovering a quiet bench with a sweeping view over Saint Martin to staying poolside. That same spirit shows up at work as he combs through logs, diagrams tall cloud stacks, and walks networks end-to-end to find root causes. Adventure, in his mind, is simply curiosity with a destination.
His deeper inspiration comes from his grandmother and a mantra she left him: leave things a little better than you found them. It is simple, portable, and powerful. You can see it in the way he closes tickets, writes documentation, and mentors teammates. Good engineers fix issues; great ones leave a trail that makes the next issue easier to solve.
Goals: AZ-900 and the Azure Future
Mark is currently working toward Microsoft’s foundational Azure certification (AZ-900). It’s a deliberate step in a broader plan to deepen his expertise across Microsoft 365 and Azure services. He sees what many businesses already know: the future is decidedly cloud-centric. Identity, security, collaboration, and analytics increasingly live in architectures that are elastic, API-driven, and continuously updated. By investing in Azure fundamentals now, he equips himself to guide clients through migrations, cost optimization, and security hardening with confidence.
For organizations evaluating their own cloud roadmaps, this focus is timely. Licensing shifts, new collaboration features, and AI-assisted workflows continue to reshape how teams work. If you’re assessing your Microsoft estate, considering a Teams-first strategy, or tightening identity and access controls, our team can help you translate vision into a right-sized plan. Big Questions, Bigger Perspective
When given the classic “haunted house or alien abduction” choice, Mark votes for aliens without blinking. He has questions for interstellar travelers. The answer reveals something essential: he is drawn to the unknown because it offers an opportunity to learn. That instinct—ask, test, verify—shows up in his day-to-day engineering. He would automate the tedious parts of self-care if he could, not out of laziness but to free attention for the problems worth solving. Time is the most valuable system resource.
Reflection and Resilience
The most personal moment in Mark’s interview came when he was asked whether he would change his biggest mistake. He said yes—if he could carry today’s wisdom back with him, he would have changed his environment earlier in life to seize opportunity sooner. It’s a grounded answer that blends humility with resolve. In technology and in life, environments matter. Surround yourself with people who challenge you, systems that scale with you, and a mission that energizes you—and progress accelerates.
Why Employee Spotlights Matter to Clients
Employee Spotlights are more than internal celebrations; they are a signal to clients about the caliber of people behind the service desk, on the escalation bridge, and inside the project room. Mark’s story illustrates the Pegasus Technologies approach: people first, process always, technology in service of outcomes. When an outage strikes during a board meeting, when a compliance audit looms, or when your team needs to roll out secure AI tools without duplicating costs, you want engineers who pair technical mastery with sound judgment and clear communication. That is the standard Mark upholds.
Closing Thoughts from the CEO
In this episode of “Meet the Employee,” CEO Matthew Tucker leads a conversation that feels equal parts lighthearted and revealing. The questions came from peers, the answers were unrehearsed, and the picture that emerges is authentic: a Tier 2 engineer who values people, thrives on learning, and leaves things better than he found them. That alignment of values and craft is exactly what we look for as we grow our team and expand the impact we have on clients.
