In this episode of Meet the Employee, Matthew Tucker sits down with Amy Smith, a Tier 2 IT Specialist at Pegasus Technologies, to discuss her background, experiences, and some fun personal insights. Amy has been with the company for nearly five months, bringing nearly 30 years of IT experience to the team.
Matthew: Amy, welcome! You’re coming up on five months here at Pegasus Technologies as a Tier 2 IT Specialist. We love having you on the team. Tell us a little about your background.
Amy: Thanks, Matthew! I’ve been in IT for almost 30 years now, which is hard to believe. Technology has changed so much in that time, but it’s been a fun and educational journey.
Matthew: And that knowledge shows! You bring so much experience to the table, and we truly appreciate having you here. Now let’s get into the fun part—questions from your peers. First up, rumor has it you have a few dogs. Which one is your favorite and why?
Amy: I have two, technically three. But if I had to pick a favorite, it’s Ruby. She’s quiet and just goes with the flow. My other dog, Ralph, is the opposite—he will eat your face off if he doesn’t like you. They’re both entertaining, but Ruby is the one who keeps things balanced.
Matthew: That’s fair! Next question: If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Amy: Honestly, I don’t have an answer for that. If someone is in my life, they’re there for a reason. I don’t really have anyone I feel like I need to seek out beyond that.
Matthew: Noted! If Amy doesn’t invite you in, you’re not in the circle. Here’s a fun one: What’s one completely useless thing that you can spend hours doing?
Amy: Coloring. I do big posters with colored pencils. In my home office, I have a two-foot by three-foot poster of an owl that took me about two weeks to complete.
Matthew: That’s impressive! Sounds like a great way to relax. Speaking of sensations, how would you describe spiciness to someone who has never tasted anything spicy before?
Amy: It’s like your food biting you back.
Matthew: That is an excellent way to put it. If you could create a TV show about your best friend’s life, what would you name it?
Amy: If she watches this, she might be mad! I have two best friends—one is a total animal lover and just started a nonprofit for barn animals, and the other is a nurse. If they were ever in the same show, it would be pure chaos. I don’t even know what I’d call it… maybe just Wow.
Matthew: That’s a fitting title! Now let’s talk conspiracy theories. What’s the craziest one you’ve ever heard?
Amy: That celebrities are being cloned and the real ones are being replaced.
Matthew: Isn’t that just AI at this point? Wild. Okay, next up: Which sport would be the funniest to play blindfolded?
Amy: Baseball.
Matthew: That sounds like total chaos. What’s the scariest children’s movie you’ve ever seen?
Amy: My parents didn’t really let us watch children’s movies—they went straight to the real scary stuff. When I was seven, I saw Amityville Horror in theaters. I had nightmares for two months. My grandmother made it worse by telling me, “If you have the light on, they can see you, but you can’t see them.” That was enough to convince me to sleep with the light off after that!
Matthew: That’s terrifying at seven years old. Let’s switch gears. What’s an unwritten rule for staying safe around you when you’re super angry?
Amy: Don’t pet my one dog. But really, just don’t make me madder. Try to make me laugh instead—that usually helps.
Matthew: Good advice! Last question: Can you share one habit or trend from your teen years that you thought was super cool, but now even the memory of it embarrasses you?
Amy: Honestly, I thought I was cool no matter what I did! But looking back, the mullet was definitely a problem.
Matthew: A mullet! Now that’s a classic. Amy, thanks for being a great sport and for sharing a little bit about yourself. You bring so much value to Pegasus, and we’re lucky to have you on the team.
Amy: Thanks, Matthew! I appreciate it.
